Hi there Debi, have purchased your book it's beautiful but am having trouble with the head and tail. Doing the head I get confused when the pattern says skip the slip stitches at row 9 (or 10) it just doesn't fit in. Please help as I am getting very disconsolate.

I am making the dinosaur and have a problem with row 11 on the head part. According to the directions I am supposed to have 6sc and I keep coming up with 8 sc.

I am an experienced crocheter and had no problem with following the crochet instructions - the stitch count at the end of each row/round is a boon. However, although there are plenty of photographs, I could have done with a couple when working the 3rd segment as I had no idea whether or not I was doing it correctly - which luckily I was.
The other, minor moan I have is that the text part of the instructions often left out things such as:
- 'Stuff as you go' on one set of wedges.
- It was not clear whether or not one should put the 'feet' on the first set of legs.
- And on the 3rd segment you were left with a leg marker and no follow-up about joining it to the other leg. (Hopefully though, you remember a similar instruction for the first set of legs, and go back and search for the page it was on) although in one case you are told to leave a 6" tail, and the next time no such detail.

Having said that, I shall be starting the elephant next

I have made Dexter the Dinosaur as well as Elenor the Elephant and have had no problems understanding the patterns or in making the toys. I will also mention that these have been my first experience at amigurumi of the crochet kind and that’s because the patterns are so clear and easily understood. Also I posted on the Authors blog about the book and Dedri offers help through her blog if needed with the patterns, which is really great.
The best toy pattern book i have purchased in a few years, When is the sequel????

Love the patterns; have made the lion and the giraffe so far. Need help with starting Tillie the turtle's leg, though, stumped on Round 1.

Louise - This explanation should help you with the instructions. If not please let Marj know. On the Front Leg, rnd 1, you work across the ch-11 in the back lps, then you are going to work back across the same ch on the opposite side of the ch. So you will have sts going across the top edge and bottom edge of the beg ch-11.

I LOVE this pattern. I am an intermediate level crocheter. I made the dinosaur and am just beginning the lion. I recommend reading through the general explanations at the beginning and then jump to the instructions particular to the animal you are making. I did have a couple of little mistakes like not connecting the lids to the legs as I went, but that was easily remedied by tying them end to end. After my first basic leg set, the other parts went by without a hitch. I am amazed that I could create something that looks so complicated. The instructions are exceptionally well written and the pictures are very helpful! Such a clever design!

Love this book. I am an experienced crocheter. Had no problem making these. I started with the giraffe, turtle & the elephant. A little confused with assembling the turtle, but got it together. I always like to challenge myself with new ideas. It takes a little reading, but you can do it.

Love these toys! I wish the book explained a little more in what order and which instructions to follow for each animal. I made extra parts I didn't need to because I didn't realize I should make the lids and legs (for example) without breaking yarn. But I will know the next time and it should be quicker for the next one :)

I agree, this is a wonderful pattern set; Judi, do you recommend starting with the first animal and going from there, is that what you mean when you say they get easy after one? I started with Skillie the Turtle, but I am now completely lost. I always thought I was at an advanced crochet level, but I am stumped!
The photos with the instructions are great, but I'm missing something!
