ANNIE'S SIGNATURE DESIGNS: Pacifica Poncho Crochet Pattern

May 7, 2021

Awesome pattern! I would like to respond to several previous reviews in which crafters expressed difficulty in understanding the pattern. In fact, everything you need to do the joins correctly is right there in the directions. For example, to join the flower motif follow the directions in row 5 of the "Subsequent Flowers" section. Joining the wheel motif is explained in row 3 of the "Wheel" section. What could have been made a little more explicit is that, once you have crocheted your first strip of joined flower-wheel motifs (the bottom row as shown in the diagram), you then go on to create the next strip which will be placed above the previous one, joining as you go in the very same manner as the first strip, except you will join more sections per motif (side by side and to the strip below). This pattern is so darling I just didn't want anyone to be put off trying it. Everything you need to complete it is right there in the directions.

This is an impossible pattern to follow. 1st: no directions or help for joining the motifs. I looked on YouTube but was not able to figure it out like one of the other reviewers. So I made each motif thinking I would hook them altogether at the end. No way. I ended up with small balls of yarn that had been cut for each motif. Unless you know how to join w/o cutting the yarn, forget this pattern.

Although I am very happy with the final outcome of this project, I was disappointed with the lack of instructions regarding the order of and directions to join the motifs. The diagram has no arrows or numbers and is flipped on it's side from the direction the picture is showing the model wearing the poncho.I emailed in for help and was basically told to follow the diagram but this was less than useful! I finally watched several You Tube videos about joining as you go and was able to figure it out. I've been crocheting for years and have done lots of more complicated patterns but haven't done this type of join before. So, if you are not already experienced with this type of joining, don't expect this pattern to teach you but if you can learn elsewhere or already understand how it works then go for it!
